Wind Advisory Issued For Southeast Michigan

The advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the strongest winds expected to come between noon and 3 p.m.

SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN — While much of southeast Michigan ends recovery efforts after hundreds of thousands of residents were for days without power due to a wind storm, another wind storm is on its way.

The National Weather Service in Detroit on Thursday issued a wind advisory for all of southeast Michigan.

The advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the strongest winds expected to come between noon and 3 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The wind advisory is predicting southwest winds of 20 mph to 25 mph, with gusts of up to 35 mph or 45 mph., the agency said.

Main hazards include loose outdoor objects that could blow over, small tree limbs could blow down and difficult driving conditions, according to the agency.

Nearly 200,000 DTE Energy customers in southeast Michigan were without power earlier this week, with wind damage causing most of the outages, according to an outage map on the DTE Energy website.

Those winds, which were reported to be around 50 mph to 60 mph, were more powerful that what is expected Thursday.
