Winter Advisory: Snow And Cold Return Today

Enjoy that weekend warmup? Consider it a brief reprieve because the National Weather Service says we're going to get a winter blast.

DETROIT, MI – Were you able to get outside and enjoy a bit of fresh air over the weekend, perhaps even a walk along clear sidewalks or a drive to the park without worry of sliding through an intersection? Hope so, because that changes Monday, says the National Weather Service.

The weather agency on Monday morning issued an urgent weather message, calling for widespread snowfall across the Greater Detroit region. Snow is already falling, and is expected to continue throughout the day.

"Be prepared for reduced visibilities at times," the weather service noted. "Cold temperatures in the lower to middle 20s will cause roadways to become quickly snow covered."

By 7:30 a.m., the temperature was at 28 degrees. Up to 4 inches of snow is expected with the greatest amounts from Greater Detroit to Port Huron. The current winter advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. Monday, and covers Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Sanilac, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Monroe counties including the cities of Detroit, Ann Arbor and Monroe.

The Michigan Department of Transportation reported that salt trucks were on state roads and freeways on Monday morning across Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

The winter advisory "means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving," the weather service noted.

For the next couple of days, the temperatures will remain in the 20s, says the weather service. We will see sun on Tuesday, but by evening clouds will move in and the wind will pick.

If you are hoping to watch the blood moon-lunar eclipse-super moon early Wednesday, you are probably going to need a computer and internet connection for a livestream from elsewhere. The forecast early Wednesday calls for clouds and then rain and snow during the day.
