Winter Weather Advisory Issued For Part Of Southeastern Michigan

Southeastern Michigan can expect to see accumulating snow beginning Monday afternoon and lasting through the day Tuesday.

SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN — The eastern half of southeast Michigan can expect to see accumulating snow beginning Monday afternoon and lasting through the day Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Detroit.

Michigan's thumb region will be under a winter weather advisory from 3 p.m. Monday to 4 p.m. Tuesday, while the the Metro Detroit region will be under an advisory from 3 p.m. Monday to noon on Tuesday, according to the advisory.

The national weather service reported that a prolonged light snow will lead to accumulations of 2-4 inches in the Metro region, with the potential for up to 5 inches in the thumb region.

"Plan on slippery road conditions and some hazardous travel conditions through the Monday evening and Tuesday commutes," the National Weather Service said in its advisory.

With the expectation for snow, local police departments in the Metro Detroit region are asking drivers to take it slow.

"Believe it or not the less snow we get usually means more crashes," Michigan State Police officials said in a social media post. "Drivers overestimate their ability to stop in time or keep control of their vehicle in lesser amounts of snow."

"Recommended winter driving supplies include a full gas tank, warm clothes, charged cell phone & a patient attitude," Troy Police officials said in a post.
