Winter Weather: State Police Urge Drivers To 'Slooooow down!'

The National Weather Service warns of icy conditions for your commute to day.

DETROIT, MI – Winter refuses to give us a break. And, on Monday, the Motor City woke to another blast in the form of snow and ice.

The National Weather Service has issued a weather advisory warning of slippery road conditions, especially during the morning commute. The advisory has been extended to 10 a.m. A revised advisory said that scattered to numerous heavy snow showers will impact morning travel.

"Widely varying and suddenly reduced visibility for motorists will add to already hazardous travel conditions produced by the overnight snowfall," the advisory warns.

Meanwhile, the Michigan State Police issued an advisory of its own via Twitter, urging drivers to "Slooooow down!" The state police said troopers from the Detroit post were handling at 11 accidents as of 7 a.m., shortly before the tweet went out.

The National Weather Service advisory was in effect for Wayne, Huron, Tuscola, Sanilac, Genesee, Lapeer, St. Clair, Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Lenawee, and Monroe counties, including the cities of Detroit, Bad Axe, Caro, Sandusky, Flint, Lapeer, Port Huron, Howell, Pontiac, Warren, Ann Arbor, Adrian and Monroe.

The Michigan Department of Transportation reported multiple accidents across the Detroit Metro region, and commuters are warned of traffic delays.

Some schools have canceled classes and events today. Be sure to check listings before heading out.
