800 Local Kids in Need this Holiday Season

Salvation Army of Washtenaw County making sure no one is forgotten this Christmas

There are 850 kids in need of presents this year in Washtenaw County, and those are just the ones we know about. Salvation Army County Coordinator Major Kris Wood spoke with radio DJ Martin Bandyke Wednesday morning to discuss how now, more than ever, families and children are in need right here in our community.

Major Wood told Martin, “Many people walk or drive right by people in our community who have been forgotten. The Salvation Army aims to not only help those people, but put value in their lives. We see them and we can help them to see their own potential.”

The Angel Tree program is one way for our community to come together and make sure no child is forgotten this Christmas. Tree’s are set up throughout Briarwood Mall with gift tags indicating gift ideas for children of all ages. Gifts purchased can be dropped off at California Pizza Kitchen.

“We don’t realize that there are children right here in Washtenaw County that are very, very hungry. Food is our number one request at the Salvation Army. Partnerships like Food Gatherers and Rockin For the Hungry are really wonderful ways to help us help those that come to us in need,” said Major Wood.

You can help the fight for kids and families in Washtenaw County by texting Unforgotten to 41444 or look for the iconic red kettles throughout town.
