Baker College’s Jackson campus appoints Lezlie Bowles to diversity liaison position

Bowles will oversee programs to increase diversity and foster inclusion campus-wide.

Baker College’s Jackson campus has appointed Lezlie Bowles to the position of diversity liaison. She is responsible for coordinating the development, implementation and administration of goals and programs to increase diversity and foster inclusion at Baker College’s Jackson campus.

“Baker College is committed to providing our students with an environment that facilitates learning so they can reach their goals and succeed in their chosen careers,” said Steve Simpson, Ed.D., Baker College of Jackson president. “Embracing diversity is key to creating workers and work environments that are inclusive and nurture respect.”

Bowles has served as academic advisor for the Jackson campus since 2014. In the new position she will lead diversity and inclusion initiatives to create an atmosphere of open dialog between students, faculty and staff, implement the campus’ diversity inclusion mission statement that welcomes change and respect, and engage the campus to participate in a climate of ownership and change.

An experienced elementary educator, Bowles taught in the Jackson Public Schools school district 1991-2003 and at the Jackson Arts and Technology Academy 2003-2004. She was elementary chief academic officer/principal at the Academy 2004-2008 and directed an educational day care center 2008-2013.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and family life education from Spring Arbor University, in Spring Arbor, and has completed a range of associated educational training including multiple leadership series at Saginaw Valley State University, in Saginaw, and Western Michigan University, in Kalamazoo.
