Dexter Public Works crews are spent the day completing snow removal after Saturday's heavy snowfall. The city advises motorists to watch for narrowed streets, because there are a few places that still need plowing because the presence of parked cars prevented that previously. The city also apologized on its website for having to dump snow back into some homeowners' driveways. "We apologize for the inconvenience to those that have already shoveled," officials wrote, adding that additional plowing will "be done during the day today, so that residents and businesses can shovel this evening and should not have to again tomorrow morning."
The city also wants residents to be aware of Dexter ordinances that require residents to clear their sidewalks of snow and ice within 48 hours of the end of snowfall. Business owners must clear their sidewalks within four hours of snow cessation or by the beginning of the next business day. The city asks people to shovel snow onto their own properties. "It is against City Ordinance to shovel the snow into the street or onto a neighbor's property," per the city's statement.
To facilitate snow removal, people should also move vehicles and any other obstructions from roads. This time of year, it's also critical to make sure fire hydrants around homes and businesses are clear of snow, accessible and visible from the street, so that firefighters don't waste precious minutes searching during an emergency.
