Dexter Fire Department Assists With Chelsea Blaze
Homeowner Treated For Smoke Inhalation After Fire Destroys Home
Late last week, a house caught fire in a Chelsea subdivision, leaving one homeowner battling smoke inhalation. The fire broke out at 11 p.m., Jan. 4. The Chelsea Fire department called in reinforcements to battle the blaze, and also captured stunning images of the house fire (see above). In all, four different departments worked into the early hours of Friday morning, finally putting out the fire. A message on the Chelsea Fire Department Facebook page expresses gratitude for the assistance.
"Last night we had a fire in the Heritage Point sub. Thankfully the residents all made it out. A funding page has been set up to help out this local family and we will be sharing it shortly. If you can please donate, they have lost everything including vehicles and this young couple has a 1 year old daughter as well," the department wrote. “Thank you to Dexter Fire, Scio Twp Fire and Manchester Fire for your assistance and for braving these temps,” the department added, alluding to the sub zero cold much of the region had experienced for nearly two weeks before the fire.
According to a YouCaring page set up by the family, “Sam and Courtney Steiner woke up to their house covered in flames. Thankfully Sam, Courtney, 1-year-old daughter Ava, and their animals were able to escape the fire safely. Devastatingly however, their entire house, belongings, and vehicles are at total loss.” To date, the page has raised about $12,000 for the family. Sam Steiner was treated for smoke inhalation immediately after the fire, and has since been released, the family reports.
