End of Year Plans for Dexter's High School Seniors
Dates, locations, and activities as adjusted for Covid restrictions ...

It's a much better year for 2021 seniors than the previous group. Maybe the dates aren't perfect, and maybe students will need umbrellas for prom, but it's a green light for prom, senior honors night, and a traditional graduation in June.
All of this information is from the school board meeting on March 8, 2021. The specific portion of the board meeting can be viewed here, and is about twenty minutes long.
Prom will be the evening of Saturday, May 22, at Al Ritt Field. About 300 seniors will be invited. Depending on Covid regulations, they will be permitted to bring one guest each. Don't expect cozy dancing, but there will be activities to encourage the attendees to spread out in the large space available. No rain date is planned.

The senior parade is being organized by parents and will operate much the same as last year. Expect decorated cars and very few people along the route. Parents of seniors may join the 2021 senior parents facebook group to keep up to date with the parade plans and all the rest of the goings-on.
Senior Honors Night is planned for Tuesday June 1, at Al Ritt Stadium. The seniors being recognized will be handed a packet containing certificates, ribbons, and medals. Students have repeatedly expressed to the principal that they want to be in person, not on Zoom. The groups might be separated into shifts depending on Covid guidelines at the time.

Graduation will follow the pattern set last year and be outdoors. DHS is deciding whether to rent the setup from Saline again or purchase stands for itself. The event is scheduled for the evening of Friday, June 4, at Al Ritt Stadium, and will also take place in shifts. Friday was selected so Sunday can be used as a rain date and families can count on graduation happening sometime that one weekend.
When asked if parents had been surveyed about graduation, the principal replied that they had not. Three board members suggested surveying parents and students for preferred dates. At this time, graduation is planned for June 4, but pending the survey results, it may shift to Sunday, June 6. The band may be allowed to perform, but seniors and family guests will take priority on attendance, and numbers are expected to be limited.
