St. Mary School Pinckney Tourney Selects Best Christmas Song Ever
almost 800 votes were cast
Christmas is near, and Christmas carols are all around us. Just after Thanksgiving, St. Mary School embarked on a 32-song round-robin tournament on its Facebook page to determine, once and for all, which is the best Christmas song ever.
Participation in the tourney was lively, almost 800 votes were cast. All those votes eventually led to the winning Christmas song, the best of all-time: O Holy Night.
The music for “O Holy Night” was composed in 1847 and set to the French poem “Minuit, chrétiens”. The lyrics we know today were written by a Unitarian minister based on the French text. The song’s lyrics reflect on the birth of Jesus, and on humanity's redemption. Perhaps the most popular renditions of the song were sung by Nat “King” Cole, Andy Williams, and Mariah Carey.

O Holy Night dispatched heavyweight competition on its way to number one: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting), Silent Night, and It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas. O Holy Night now stands as “best ever” Christmas song.
