Clarkston Claims State Football Title, 3-2

Clarkston Wolves Win Division 1 State Football Championship in 3-2 Upset of West Bloomfield Lakers at Ford Field

Thanksgiving weekend saw an upset bigger than table talk about politics as Clarkson defeated West Bloomfield 3-2 in the high school football Division 1 state finals. In a matchup of defensive playing, and a game that saw no touchdowns by either team, the Ford Field championship game saw the underdog Clarkston Wolves finally get their due.

“We find a way, that’s what this team has been all about all year long,” Clarkston head coach Kurt Richardson told The Oakland Press, adding “Our defense played remarkable.”

In what played out like an old-school ice hockey goalie duel of football, Clarkston’s impenetrable D made West Bloomfield Lakers quarterback Bryce Veasley, whose 3,515 passing yards put him at the top that category statewide this season, a nonissue in the game, a far cry from the teams’ early season matchup in September, which saw West Bloomfield lay a punishing 37-15 defeat on the now-state champs.
