Says Biden's newly-announced emissions targets fall "dramatically short" of what the science demands

Washington, DC - The CLIMATE CLOCK released an official statement on Earth Day that the emission reduction targets released by the BIden Administration at the Earth Day Leaders Summit today fall dramatically short of what the scientific consensus demands. The effort is known for the giant clock in New York’s Union Square, as well as portable clocks activists took to the front of the White House today and projected onto the Department of Energy in DC earlier this week.
Statement by the Climate Clock creators Gan Golan and Andrew Boyd:
“The deadline on the CLIMATE CLOCK is grounded in science, not politics,” said Laura Berry, CLIMATE CLOCK Research Lead. “The science tells us: we have less than seven years to take the necessary climate action to have a two-thirds chance of staying under the critical threshold of 1.5°C.”

“At face value, President Biden’s pledge seems like a doubling of climate ambition from the Obama era. But examined closely, Biden's new emissions reduction goal — 50% below a 2005 baseline by 2030 — is less than a one-third increase in the scale of emissions reductions. This falls dramatically short of what we need to do to protect people and the planet.”
