Farmington Named 30th Safest City In Michigan
The National Council for Home Safety and Security named Farmington Hills one of the state's safest cities.

The National Council for Home Safety and Security released its annual list of the country’s safest cities Thursday. In 2018, Farmington ranked as the 30th safest city, based on crime data for the area. The safest city in Michigan, according to the council, is Grosse Ile Township, which as a population just over 10,000 and had only two violent crimes and fifteen property crimes, making it not only one of the safest cities in Michigan and placing it in the top five overall in communities over 10,000.
Farmington, with a population of 10,553 recorded five violent crimes and 117 property crimes, placing it just ahead of larger cities like Royal Oak and Novi. Michigan’s big cities fared less well in the rankings. Flint ranked 127th, with 1,545 violent crimes among the population of 97,548 residents. Kalamazoo ranked 128th, with 925 violent crimes reported in the population of 76,000 residents, followed by Detroit, which has a population of 669,673 and recorded 13,705 violent crimes.
