Former National Park Service Employees Urges Senate
To confirm DOI leadership nominees

WASHINGTON, DC -- The Coalition to Protect America’s National Parks is urging the Senate to confirm Tommy Beaudreau as Deputy Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Shannon Estenoz as Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Fish Wildlife and Parks. In a statement, Phil Francis, Chair of the Coalition to Protect America’s National Parks, explained:
“We welcome both Tommy Beaudreau’s nomination to the position of Deputy Secretary of the Interior and Shannon Estenoz’s nomination as Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Fish, Wildlife, and Parks. Beaudreau gained excellent experience protecting and managing America’s majestic landscapes, public lands, and waterways during his past tenure at the department. And Estenoz has vast experience working to protect habitats, wildlife, and parks through her extensive work in the Everglades and with conservation groups.
“We feel strongly that both nominees are well qualified to help Secretary Haaland advance President Biden’s ambitious agenda for our parks and public lands - expanding conservation and combating climate change.

“We also urge Secretary Haaland to nominate a Director of the National Park Service as soon as possible. The agency has been without a Senate-confirmed Director for over four years – something that has never happened in the hundred-year plus history of the NPS.
“We urge the Senate to quickly confirm these nominations and ask the Secretary to continue to focus on addressing critical, vacant positions within the ranks of NPS leadership, including the Director.”
