Hockey Fans You Want to Be in These Cities

WalletHub today released its report on 2019's Best Cities for Hockey Fans as well as Stanley Cup Facts infographic.

The 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs is the playoff tournament of the National Hockey League (NHL). The playoffs began on April 10, 2019, after the 2018–19 NHL season, and will conclude no later than June 12, 2019, with the Stanley Cup Finals, to determine the winner of the Stanley Cup.

Last year the average price for the Stanly Cup final tickets cost over a thousand dollars. NHL tickets are still on the rise. NHL attendance has gone up for 218-2019 Blackhawks at home saw attendance numbers of over 22,000. Hockey fans are dedicated to their teams and seem to be willing to pay any price for a ticket. To determine the best places for hockey spectators, WalletHub compared 73 U.S. cities based on two divisional categories, professional and college hockey, across 21 key metrics. The data set ranges from the performance level of the city’s teams to minimum season ticket prices to stadium capacity.

Best vs Worst

  • The Tampa Bay Lightning’s performance level, 64.23 percent, is 1.7 times better than that of the Detroit Red Wings, at 38.62 percent.
  • The Minnesota State Mavericks’ performance level, 68.37 percent, is five times better than that of the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves, at 13.73 percent.
  • Glendale, Arizona, has the lowest average ticket price for an NHL game, $72, which is 3.8 times lower than in Las Vegas, the city with the highest at $271.
  • Chicago has the highest attendance rate for NHL games, 107.20 percent, which is 1.4 times higher than in Raleigh, North Carolina, the city with the lowest at 76.70 percent.
  • Chicago has the highest team franchise value, $1,050 million, which is 3.6 times higher than in Glendale, Arizona, the city with the lowest at $290 million.
