Homebuyers Expectations Fall Short Says Recent Survey

A recent survey by Flyhomes finds reality often falls short of dream-home expectations

Many Americans start out to fulfill their dream of buying that perfect home. They expect to see master bedrooms, chef kitchen and an oasis for a bathroom but according to a recent survey of 1,000 Americans by Flyhomes, reality often falls short of dream-home expectations.

Lets face it home buying is a stressful process with 58% saying that buying a home was more stressful than they expected.

How did this stress show up:

  • Cry it out: 15% say they were reduced to tears by the process.
  • Fight it out: One in 5 say they got into a fight with their partner while buying a home.
  • Talk it out: Two in 5 say they talked to their parents about it.
  • (Don’t) sleep on it: One-third say they lost sleep over the home buying process.

Other survey findings reveal:

Among first time homebuyers 40% said they spent more than they expected to when buying a home.

Over half say their new home required unexpected repairs or maintenance.

One in five say upkeep and maintenance was more work than they expected.

Nearly 1 in 5 say they weren’t happy with the location.

Nearly a third say they wished for a larger kitchen.
