MEA, AFT, MASSP, MEMPSA, MAPSA, MASA and MAISA Partner for Second Major Educator Survey

LANSING, MI—This week, Launch Michigan, the American Federation of Teachers–Michigan, the Michigan Education Association, the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals, the Michigan Association of Elementary School Principals, the Michigan Association of Public School Academies, the Michigan Association of School Administrators and the Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators begin surveying tens of thousands of teachers and school leaders on their experiences, hoping to develop a better view of what’s working well in the state’s PK–20 education system.
The survey will follow up on a previous survey conducted by the organizations in 2019, which found fewer than 25 percent of the state’s educators would recommend their career to a young person they know.
“We’re going to be examining ways in which this thinking has changed, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic experience,” said Launch Michigan president Adam Zemke. “We also plan to review what’s going well and what needs improvement when it comes to the state’s educational framework, particularly in the areas of policy, practice and funding.”

The survey will be in the field through May 16, with results expected during the summer months.
“When we explore the experiences of Michigan educators, we learn vast amounts of compelling information about the opportunities and challenges they face,” said MEA president Paula Herbart. “We are eager to listen to their voices as we look for ways to improve our state’s educational structures.”

AFT–Michigan president David Hecker concurred, saying, “At its core, it’s instruction that matters most to a strong PK–20 system, and we need to develop a richer understanding of how educators are addressing that work in the presence of constantly changing realities, particularly the pandemic.”
Teachers, principals, and other building-level educators should be getting a link to participate from their union or professional association. If they don't get that email, they can contact info@ewhiteresearch.com to participate.
