Legendary Poet and Activist Maya Angelou Dies at 86: Share a Favorite Quote

"Prejudice is a burden that confuses the past, threatens the future and renders the present inaccessible," Maya Angelou once wrote. What's your favorite from a woman whose life was, by all accounts, remarkable?

Raped at 7 by her mother’s boyfriend and convinced that it was her voice that caused a mob to beat him to death, Maya Angelou descended into silence for six years before she found her voice  again, raising it in verse and activism that would inspire generations.

Her publicist said Wednesday that Angelou died at her Winston-Salem, NC, home, CNN is reporting. She was 86.
