Oakland Co. Commissioners Pass Budget and Pay Bumps

Approval for the 2014-15 budget went smoothly Thursday. Not so a 3% salary raise for commissioners.

Oakland County Commissioners approved the county’s 2014-15 budget Thursday and also OK’ed a pay raise for themselves, the Detroit Free Press reports.

But while the budget’s approval was unanimous, ratifying the 3-percent salary increase for commissioners—the same for the county’s 4,000 employees—was much more contentious, the report stated. Many commissioners objected to the idea of raises, while others said it was a way of returning to levels before salaries had been cut in previous years, the report added.

Along with the 3-percent increase for the 2014-15 fiscal year, commissioners also are scheduled for a 2-percent raise in 2015-16, the report stated.
