Pair Of Famous Cats Missing, Presumed Dead, After Michigan Blaze

Both felines are in the Guinness Book Of World Records — Cygnus for having the longest tail and Arcturus for being the tallest cat.

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI – Perhaps the two most famous pet felines in Michigan are missing and possibly dead after their owners' home caught fire and was destroyed over the weekend, according to media reports. The cats, both of whom are in the Guinness Book of World Records, belonged to William and Lauren Powers.

The Powers' home in the 34000-block of Quaker Valley Lane was destroyed by fire on Sunday, according to MLive.com. William Powers told the online news site that he woke to home fire alarms going off. He and his wife were able to escape, but could not find their cats.

"I was not able to find any of them before I was overcome with smoke," Will Powers wrote in an Instagram post. "We are nearly sure all perished. I did manage to open a few doors as I ran outside so if anyone in the Farmington, MI area finds a cat matching their description, please contact us."

The Powers' famous cats are Cygnus, who holds the record for the longest tail, at 17.5 inches long, and Arcturus, the world's tallest cat at 20 inches tall. The couple also has a third cat, Sirius, according to the Instagram post.

The couple, who lost their home and belongings in the blaze Sunday morning, said they have received an outpouring of support and have a place to sleep, food and clothes. If anyone wishes to help out more, they can contribute to the Ferndale Cat Shelter in honor of Cygnus, Sirius and Arcturus.

"We cared more about helping others than worldly possessions and so did they," wrote William Lauren Powers in the post. "Any support to Ferndale will make all of their deaths not meaningless and might help another family love the cats like we loved ours."

Here is a pair of photos shared by the Powerses recently on Instagram of their beloved cats.
