Puppies On Patrol: Cops Offer Dog Owners Crime-Fighting Gig

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI – Got a dog? Like to take your pooch for walks? Want to help fight crime? Farmington Hills Police is offering residents and canines an opportunity to play heroes, no capes required.

The Farmington Hills Police Department’s Crime Prevention Section will host a "Paw Watch" meeting at the police station at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2. During that session, dog owners will learn about Paw Watch, a crime awareness initiative for dog owners that started in April 2017.

Pet owners will learn how to observe suspicious activities and recognize criminal behavior, find out what type of information police need from civilians, and get tips on how to report information that helps officers respond to incidents. Participants will also learn how to remain safe when they are out walking their pets.

More than 100 residents have enrolled in the Paw Watch program in the past year and learned how to safely observe and report crime while walking their pets, police officials said.

The Paw Watch meeting is open to all residents, however they should not bring their pets to the meeting. Every pet who joins the program will receive a Paw Watch bandana. Light refreshments will be served and a special safety prize will be awarded in a raffle at the end of the meeting.
