Spring is finally here, so while we’re sheltering in place, one option to stay busy is with some timely do-it-yourself project. Here with some helpful suggestions is our favorite TV contractor, Chip Wade -- the Emmy-winning host of shows like elbow room, curb appeal: the block and several other HGTV shows

The biggest thing I think that would be great for homeowners to hear is getting product and project recommendations with a really high likelihood of great success when you done. I know if I’m going into project and I know it is going to turn out great when Im done I have a lot more excitement and ambition to get that job done.

One of the things I’ve done recently is remodel my closet. A closet is the spot whether you’re a neat freak or not. It is really nice to find everything and keep it organized. What I did last week was pull everything out and repainted the walls, got everything sealed and cleaned. Then I put in a custom closet system I bought from ClosetMaid its actually called Space Creations® and its surprisingly easy to put in. It is super high quality and the finishes are really nice and the options are almost limitless. You can have drawers, pullouts, shoe racks, hanging storage. Whatever your needs are you can instantly like in one day. It goes in really quick.

Right now the coolest thing I found is actually a type of flooring. It is real tile but requires no thin set and no tile spacers. It is called Revo-Tile from Daltile. This is a product that is a real porcelain tile but has a base on the bottom that clicks together. It goes right over an existing floor, over hardwood, existing tile and you can do it yourself in a day. And because there is no thin set underneath you can walk on it immediately. You can grout right over it. I used a lot of this and its amazing. It is a real tile that is a lot easier to install.

Right now is the time to get the grass really clean. Make sure to cut it down so you are ready for the warm months that are coming. So my tip right now is to make sure you irrigation system is actually primed and ready because once that heat hits we don’t want to be fighting to make sure our irrigation system is system is working properly.

A lot of sealants and caulk are the same. While your in your closet, kitchen or bathrooms you want to make sure your using the right product called Kwik Seal Ultra from Dap. What is interesting about this is its latex based which is really easy to clean and goes on smoothly but it also has hydrophobic properties it. Anything like a mildew stain, water stain it is just going to roll right off of it and none of that will stick to it. It is also shower ready in four hours and its really easy to clean.

While we are all at home looking for things to do one of things I did last weekend as well is change out my smoke alarms. Lot of people don’t realize just hitting that test button or changing the batteries you think that its going to work but the smoke detecting element in the smoke alarms are actually only are rated to last about ten years. It is more the longevity you have the smoke alarm vs. the battery lives. The Kidde 10 year worry free smoke alarm has a ten year battery built into them which corresponds to the link they will actually last.
