Winter Olympics: Meet The Athletes From Michigan On Team USA

Eleven athletes from Michigan will take part in the Olympics in PyeongChang.

When the Olympic Winter Games open this week in PyeongChang, South Korea this week, Michigan will be well represented. There's a women's ice hockey player from Farmington, a short track speed skater from Melvindale and a snowboarder from West Bloomfield. There are men's hockey players, as well as figure skaters from around the state.

The U.S. Olympic team is comprised of 242 athletes, with 135 men and 107 women. Eleven of the athletes call Michigan home. The games begin Thursday, and the opening ceremony marking the official start of the games is Friday.

The opening ceremony and the games will be broadcast on NBC. The games take place over a two-week period with the closing ceremony on Feb. 25.

Athletes will be competing in alpine skiing, biathlon, bobsled, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey, luge, Nordic combined, skeleton, ski jumping, snowboarding, long track speed skating and short track speed skating.
