LeaderCast is broadcast live from Atlanta to host sites around the world. It’s designed to equip people to be better leaders, managers, employees and community members by offering interactive experiences, practical guidance and business solutions, and opportunities for continued education, professional networking and personal growth. The annual conference has been named by Inc. magazine as one of the Top Conferences for Entrepreneurs.

The theme for this 17th annual LeaderCast broadcast is “Powered by Purpose,” recognizing that “why” one does something matters as much or more than “what” one does. The conference will focus on what it means to be powered by purpose, to be part of a purpose-driven organization and to work with a team of people that understand the “meaning” in addition to the “metrics.”

“Sponsoring LeaderCast Detroit aligns with several of our guiding principles including a willingness to change and adapt, striving for continuous improvement and engaging with our local community,” said Kristine L. Barann, CPA, Baker College of Allen Park president. “It is imperative that we continually inspire and develop leaders who can make the changes necessary to take our organizations to the next level in a rapidly changing environment.”

“Rotary is about interacting with leaders, exchanging ideas and taking action,” said Jeremy Gyorke, past president, Rotary Club of Wyandotte. “LeaderCast is important for our club because the conference vision is ‘Building leaders worth following,’ which supports our efforts to make a positive impact in Downriver Detroit. LeaderCast 2017 is ideal for leaders who want to grow in their leadership.”

Attendees engage in activities during the event on their mobile devices via the LeaderCast app. They can take surveys and have a chance to win prizes from the national and local LeaderCast hosts.

This year’s speakers provide diverse perspectives on the steps to uncovering one’s purpose, to reconnect with the “why” of one’s organization, and to live, work and play “Powered by Purpose.” In addition to McKelvey and Perry, speakers include:

  • Daniel Pink, behavioral science expert, author and host of “Crowd Control” on the National Geographic Channel.
  • Molly Fletcher, author and former sports agent (hailed as “the female Jerry Maguire” by CNN).
  • Andy Stanley, leadership author and communicator.
  • Suzy Welch, author, TV commentator and business journalist.
  • Dr. Henry Cloud, leadership expert, clinical psychologist and author.
  • Jess Ekstrom, the 25-year-old founder and CEO of Headbands of Hope.

General, nursing and human resources continuing education (CEU) credits are available.

The event’s beneficiary, the not-for-profit Blessings in a Backpack, is a neighbor-helping-neighbor program that provides nutritional foods to at-risk families and children. The program’s goal is to remove barriers to academic success by keeping children from going hungry when they are away from school each weekend.
