UPDATED: Drew Lane Announces New Sports Radio Show

The program, tentatively titled "Sports and More," will run weekdays from 3 to 7 p.m. on the new Detroit Sports 105.1 channel, the host said Monday in Ferndale.

Longtime Metro Detroit radio personality Drew Lane announced that he will launch an afternoon sports show starting Monday, Aug. 12, on the new Detroit Sports 105.1 channel.

The show, tentatively titled "Sports and More," will run weekdays from 3 to 7 p.m. and feature interviews with sports newsmakers, analysis, call-ins and entertainment, said Lane, who made the announcement with Greater Media Detroit Market Manager Steve Chessare and Detroit Sports 105.1 Program Director Jason Dixon at One Radio Plaza in Ferndale.

"This is a really exciting day for me. I'm really nervous, which is weird," Lane said. "Being in front of a microphone, I usually don't feel that way. I'm just as excited as hell and that's about all I have to say. More at 3 o'clock!"

Lane co-hosted the popular Ferndale-based morning show Drew and Mike with Mike Clark on WRIF 101.1 from 1991 until earlier this year. The new show will pit Lane and longtime producer Marc Fellhauer against the Valenti & Foster sports talk show on 97.1 The Ticket.

"People that know me know I've talked about doing sports or being in a sports format for a long time," Lane said. "So, friends of mine, people that really know me – all three or four them – they're not surprised at all by this."

Lane said the show will focus on sports, but include other topics as well.

Dixon also announced Monday that Detroit Sports 105.1 will serve as an ESPN affiliate, providing on-air coverage of the World Series, the NBA Finals and the BCS Championship Game, as well as weekly appearances by ESPN Monday Night Football announcer and Ann Arbor resident Mike Tirico.

Detroit Sports 105.1's initial lineup will include the following programs:

  • 6-10 a.m.: “Mike & Mike
  • 10 a.m. to noon: "The Herd with Colin Cowherd”
  • Noon to 3 p.m.: "Ryan and Rico" with Ryan Ermanni and Rico Beard until a permanent personality is named)
  • 3-7 p.m.: Drew Lane, with producer Marc Fellhauer
The channel will provide sports updates three times each hour and place a premium on social media; it added 13,000 Twitter followers in the hour preceding the press conference, Dixon said Monday.
