Ferndale Considers New Rules For Outdoor Events

Possible Changes Include Limits On Alcohol Events

As spring (slowly) approaches, the city of Ferndale prepares for its very busy season of outdoor events and festivals. Jan. 8, the city held a work session to mull recommendations by staff and review other information to discuss possible changes to rules for festivals and events in the city. Possible changes include requiring a walk-through with public safety and the Department of Public Works two weeks before an event, requiring a refundable deposit to insure compliance with event rules, and limiting the number of alcohol-related events though a yearly cap.

“I feel like we’re at a tipping point,” Mayor Dave Coulter said, according to the Oakland County Times. “At what point is it too much?”
