Ferndale Cop Convicted Of Assault Now An Officer In Hazel Park
A police officer who resigned after being convicted of roughing up a suspect in Ferndale is now on the job in Hazel Park.

Jason White, who lost his job as a Ferndale Police officer after punching and body slamming a teen he’d arrested previously, is now working as an officer in Hazel Park, according to WXYZ CBS. In an April 2016 incident caught on police dash cam video, White body slams a handcuffed 17-year-old suspect and then punches him repeatedly. Police reports say White punched the teen six times after he’d been slammed to the ground, while he was in handcuffs.
Oakland County charged White with assault and battery, a misdemeanor. White pleaded no contest and resigned from the force.
After Chanel 7 learned White had been hired in Hazel Park, they asked Hazel Park Police Chief Brian Buchholz if he had any worries about employing someone with White’s history. “I do not,” Buchholz told Channel 7. “He’s a solid guy, he’s not going to make a mistake like that again. He’s happy to be where he’s at, he’s thankful, and I’m confident.” Buchholz also cited White's 20 years of experience, saying he'd been especially helpful in negotiating the peaceful surrender of an armed man who'd barricaded himself inside a home.
