Ferndale’s Michigan Works! Office Closing

Branch Will Consolidate With Oak Park

Ferndale, MI — The Oakland County Michigan Works! Task Force recommended that Ferndale’s Michigan Works! service center be consolidated with the center in Oak Park. The move comes after the agency saw a loss of $12.7 million in state and federal funds over the last five years. The task force considered a number of criteria before reaching the decision, including performance indicators, demographics and the best way to improve efficiency at the eight centers in Oakland County.

The Ferndale location will close within nine months, but services to jobseekers are still being offered there, per a message on the center’s Facebook page. The Ferndale Service Center is a joint project by Oakland County Michigan Works! and the Ferndale Schools.

Jennifer Llewellyn, manager of Oakland County Workforce Development, told the Oakland County Times that the move had nothing to do with the staff or the office’s operation.

“We appreciate the hard work and dedication of the entire Ferndale staff and will be working with them to secure new positions within the Oakland County Michigan Works! network and the Ferndale School District,” Llewellyn told The Times. “We expect the transition of services to the Oak Park office will be seamless and accessible to both businesses and job seekers.”
