Ferndale Schools Closed Today

Extreme Cold Cited As Reason For "Snow" Day

Thursday marked the area’s tenth day of high temperatures below 20 degrees. With temperatures predicted to fall as low as -20 degrees by morning, Ferndale Schools announced the cancellation of Friday classes yesterday night.

According to the schools’ webpage: “Ferndale Schools will be closed on January 5th, 2018 due to cold weather.” The website advises parents to check their email for further information.

After nearly two weeks of arctic blast temperatures, Ferndale joins schools across Metro Detroit and beyond in announcing closures. Temperatures have hovered around zero for ten days, causing two tragic deaths when elderly women with demential wandered into the snow and succumbed to the cold in Roseville and Shelby Township earlier this week.
