Ferndale Student Artists Work Featured In Show
Ferndale sixth and eighth graders honored for art work.

Ferndale sixth grader Ruby Speedwell and eight grader Teyana Bartley had art work chosen for the 28th Annual Student Art Town Exhibition. Feb. 9 and 10, the exhibition can be viewed between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Community House, 380 S Bates St, Birmingham.
The Student Art Town Exhibit, part of The Community House’s Experience the Arts youth engagement program, showcases young artists in the community, Children in elementary through high school grades all over Metro Detroit participate in the annual Art Town exhibition. Their world ranges from “drawings to landscapes and photography to watercolor,” according to the Community House. The Community House the public to come check out this exhibition for free Friday, Feb. 9th.
Saturday, Feb. 10th, The Community House will host two awards ceremonies for the Student Art Town. For $20, participants can take in the children’s art and enjoy a brunch or lunch, depending on the age level. The elementary honors take place from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m., while the middle and high school lunch takes place from noon - 2 p.m.
The middle and high school art work are part of a juried contest judged by by Barbara Heller, director and conservator for the Detroit Institute of Arts.

Saturday, there will also be a free art workshop from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at The Community House. The event is free, but requires registration. People can register with an email to Lauren Vidak at lvidak@communityhouse.com. Tickets for Saturday’s brunch and lunch are available online at the Community House website.
