Ferndale Woman Killed in Rochester Hills Crash

Oakland County Sheriff's officials are continuing to investigate a fatal crash late Friday in Rochester Hills, according to Sheriff's officials.

According to the department, a 51-year-old Ferndale woman was killed in the crash, which occurred about 6:50 p.m. Friday on Dequindre south of Avon.

The woman was reportedly driving her 2001 Ford Taurus northbound on Dequindre when she lost control of her vehicle while navigating a turn and went into the southbound lane, where her vehicle was struck on the passenger side by a 2004 Ford Taurus driven by a 17-year-old Rochester Hills female.

According to the department, the 17-year-old driver had three other occupants in her vehicle, including a 16-year-old female, her 18-year-old sister and their 35-year-old mother, all residents of Rochester Hills.

Rochester Hills fire crews responded to the scene and the Ferndale driver died en route to Troy Beaumont Hospital, Sheriff's officials indicated. The four occupants from the second vehicle were taken to Troy Beaumont, where they all were listed in stable condition.

According to Sheriff's officials, the Ferndale woman was not wearing a seatbelt. In the second vehicle, the two front occupants wore seatbelts while the rear passengers did not. Sheriff's officials also believe alcohol to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
