Ice in the Forecast for Ferndale Weekend: Beautiful!
More than 40 ice sculptures highlight annual Ice Festival.

(Originally published on Dec. 6, 2016) FERNDALE, MI — The weekend forecast calls for little precipitation and temperatures right around freezing. Ferndale officials couldn't be happier. Ferndale's annual Holiday Ice Festival is Saturday, featuring not just ice carvings but live reindeer, hayrides, photos with Santa and much more.
About 2,000 people are expected to attend the event, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features champion ice sculptor Tajana Taukar, who will do live ice carvings for the crowds using a chainsaw and other tools.
The ice carvers 300-pound block of ice that will be placed in front of downtown businesss along Nine Mile Road and Woodward Avenue. Santa will set up shop at Planavon and West Nine Mile Road, and Digital Lane Photography and Ferndale photographer Larry Mills will shoot free photos of children with Santa.
