Old Ferndale Grocery Story Will Boast Rooftop Views of Detroit

Construction to begin in April on project transforming old Save-a-Lot grocery store to mixed use building with 90 residential units.

FERNDALE, MI – The old building at 430 West Nine Mile Road will soon house people who buy groceries rather than the groceries themselves.

Designhaus, a Rochester architectural firm, developed a plan for Arbor Investments to transform the old Save-a-Lot building into a new four-story mixed use project with 79,200 feet of residential space divided among 90 units on the upper stories of the building.

The first floor will have about 1,345 feet of office space and parking.

“People are starting to move back to the cities and it’s great to build high quality housing for the Ferndale residents,” Peter Stuhlreyer, chief architect, said of the project. “The area chosen to develop this project is a prime spot for those wanting to live in Ferndale. It’s a convenient walk to the local stores and dining. This type of mixed use project allows for more economical growth in the city of Ferndale.”

With the new development coming in, Ferndale will look to continue its popularity with those looking to move closer to downtown Detroit.

Construction is set to start this April.
