With Snow In The Forecast, A Few School Closings Resources

Where to find school delay and school closing information for Ferndale this winter.

Parts of Metro Detroit can expect up to three inches or more of snow this week, per the National Weather Service. While three inches isn’t generally an issue for most Michigan cities and towns, it does signal the time of year when parents will want to have all school delay and closing info sources close at hand.

Metro Detroit has a number of sources for school closing info, including the following:

These sources are all updated regularly, but there’s a dedicated section on the Ferndale Public Schools’ website as well as announcements on the district’s Facebook page.

As for the weather, here's what the National Weather Service is predicting for the rest of Monday and Tuesday:

Monday December 11:
Snow (1–2 in.) starting in the evening. High 32, low 17.

Chance of precipitation: 60%. Wind 3 mph from the SSW

Tuesday December 12:
Mostly cloudy throughout the day and breezy in the morning. High 31, low 12.

Chance of precipitation: 47%. Wind 14 mph from the NW

Light snow is predicted Wednesday, but the real issue may be the freezing temperatures and even colder-seeming windchill. Remember, schools sometimes close because of extremely cold temperatures, so be sure to check before sending little ones out to the bus, set them on their walk to school, or before driving them, even when there’s little to no snow.
