Press release from Grand Rapids Public Schools:

Dear District and School Leaders, Teachers, Support Staff, Parents, Guardians, and Volunteers,

On behalf of the Grand Rapids Board of Education, I am writing to express our thanks, appreciation, and support for all you are doing during these uncertain and challenging times.

Despite all the unknowns and ever-changing information coming from the federal, state, and county levels, our district leaders, teachers, and support staff are doing everything possible to maintain ongoing communications and ensure our students have access to academic enrichment and nutritional support. They are also working hard to develop distance learning plans and other contingency plans in case the mandated statewide closure extends beyond April 13.

We want to assure our parents and guardians that the board and district are committed to meeting the needs of all our students despite the challenges and restrictions imposed on everyone by the coronavirus pandemic. We continue to seek guidance from officials at the federal, state, and county level, and will be sharing news and information frequently moving forward.

Lastly, as a board, we are in the process of scheduling our next public meeting in accordance with Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s recent executive order granting public bodies to hold virtual meetings. Once we have additional details, we will share them.
