Grand Rapids Business Among 3 Cited For Violating Executive Order

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — A Grand Rapids business has had its liquor license suspended for violations of executive orders issued by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer during the coronavirus pandemic. It was one of three West Michigan businesses to have their license suspended for violations, according to the state.

The Michigan Liquor Control Commission issued emergency suspensions of the liquor licenses held by the businesses due to multiple violations, including the failure to require six feet of social distancing; failure to require face coverings for staff and patrons; and failure to prohibit patrons from congregating.

MLCC Commissioners ordered emergency suspensions of the liquor licenses held by:

• Broadway Ventures, Inc., d/b/a Odyssey Entertainment, located at 700 E. Broadway Ave., Muskegon Heights. The Commission ordered an emergency suspension of the Class C License on Aug. 26, pending a hearing on Sept. 4. Prior to that hearing, on Sept. 3, the licensee entered into a negotiated settlement which resulted in $750 in fines and an additional 14-day suspension which ended Sept. 17.
• Baugh Operating, Inc., d/b/a Wright Tavern, located at 18800 8th Ave., Conklin, Wright Township. The Commission ordered an emergency suspension of the Class C/SDM licenses on Sept. 9. A hearing is scheduled for Sept. 21 to determine whether this summary suspension should continue, or other fines and penalties should be imposed.
• Donald Wasker, Inc., d/b/a Flamingo Lounge, located at 930 Bridge St. NW, Grand Rapids. The Commission ordered an emergency suspension of the Class C/SDM licenses on Sept. 15. A hearing is scheduled for Sept. 25 to determine whether this summary suspension should continue, or other fines and penalties should be imposed.
