Grand Rapids Public Schools Publishes COVID-19 Update For March 14

"Dear GRPS Parent/Guardian(s) and Staff,

First and foremost, we want to thank you again for your patience, understanding, and support as we continue to work through this fluid and ever-changing situation related to the coronavirus (COVID-19).

We are writing to you today to share the following updates:

• GRPS is closed until Sunday, April 12. This includes the mandated statewide closure of all public and private schools until Sunday, April 5 AND the GRPS Spring Break closure scheduled between Friday, April 3 and Sunday, April 12. This may be subject to change pending alternate direction from the state.
• The last day of the school year is currently planned for Wednesday, June 3, but may be subject to change. We are waiting for information and direction from the state regarding student instructional time and contact hours.
• Central office will be closed to the public starting Wednesday, March 18 until Sunday, April 12. This may be subject to change.
• Schools will be temporarily opened on Monday, March 16 from 10:00 am to Noon and again from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm for parent/guardian(s) and staff to collect any personal belongings (footwear, clothing, student prescription medications, etc.). This is the final opportunity for parent/guardian(s) and staff to access the buildings to collect personal belongings.
• Of the four GRPS school-based health clinics, only the Burton Health Clinic is open. This may be subject to change.
• Resources for remote student learning enrichment opportunities are being developed. We anticipate these resources will be communicated by Wednesday next week.
• We are not accepting donations of food, clothing, or supplies.
• Questions or concerns may be directed to 616-301-1111 or emailed to communications@grps.org. Please allow a 48 hour response time.
• GRPS is opening a total of five nutrition service “grab and go” meal sites. The sites will be open daily, Monday through Friday, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. The meals will be a breakfast/lunch combo and are available for all students 18 years of age and younger. They are not limited to GRPS students.
  • Starting Monday, March 16, there will be four sites open: New Faith Temple (1701 Kalamazoo Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49507), San Juan Diego Academy (1650 Godfrey Ave SW, Wyoming, MI 49509), Creston Plaza Apartments (1080 Creston Plaza NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503), and Campau Commons (821 Division Ave S, Grand Rapids, MI 49503).
  • Starting Tuesday, March 17, three additional sites will be opening at Hope Academy (240 Brown St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49507), Sibley Elementary (943 Sibley St. NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504), and Ottawa Hills High School (2055 Rosewood SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506).
  • These are subject to change and additional sites may be added.
