Pat enjoyed playing hockey in her youth and was proud of being the first female hockey referee in the state of Illinois.

Age 62, of Lockport, IL, passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, Monday, July 16, 2018. She was born June 25, 1956, in Kansas City, MO, to the late Darryl H. and Erma Lee (nee Scheifer) Lawson. She was raised in Missouri, Ohio and Michigan, and while living in Grand Rapids she attended Kent Hills Elementary School. As an adult she resided in New York and Illinois.

Beloved wife of Robert “Bob” Hammond; devoted step-mother of Melinda (Jeff) Chiapello, Christopher (Megan) Hammond, Benjamin Hammond (fianceé Sheila) and Victoria Hammond; proud grandma of Levi, Zeke, Addison and Avery; dear sister of John (Gayle) Lawson; cherished cousin of Carolyn Hamilton, Julie Foster, Craig Goodhart, Nancy Lee, Greg Lawson, Linda Mengle, Jimmy Lawson and Kathy Lawson; caring niece of Dean Stevens and Dale (Doris) Lawson. She will also be missed by her mother and father-in-law, MaryLou and Gene Hammond; sister-in-law, Karen (DeWitt) Buchanan; niece, Hannah and nephew, Andrew.

She was preceded in death by her parents and best friend, Robin Miller.

Pat received a Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Illinois University and a Masters from Keller Business College; she also did post graduate studies at Michigan State University. She enjoyed a 38 year career as a chemist at Akzo Nobel in Morris, IL.

Her hobbies included learning by way of reading and research and watching sports on TV, especially the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Blackhawks. Pat herself enjoyed playing hockey in her youth and was proud of being the first female hockey referee in the state of Illinois. Joliet Park District softball was another favorite activity. Pat could also be found religiously supporting her husband at his many running events and was a member of Experience Triathlon Club.

An animal lover, she appreciated the beauty and majesty of horses and was able to horseback ride often as a young adult.

Patricia’s family will always remember the kindness, compassion and wonderful care provided by Joliet Area Community Hospice.

A Memorial Gathering for Patricia Lee Hammond will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. A Prayer Service will conclude the gathering at 6:00 p.m. As it was Pat’s request, cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name can be made to the Humane Society of the United States by visiting www.humanesociety.org.
