Fish For Free With Cromaine Library And The DNR

The weekend of June 12 and 13, the stars align and families can enjoy the beautiful outdoors in Michigan for free! How? Read on and explore the options!

Three Free Weekend with The Michigan Department of Natural Resources:

Saturday, June 12 and Sunday, June 13 residents and out-of-state visitors are invited to grab a fishing rod, ride the off-road trails, and visit state parks free of charge. Saturday and Sunday a fishing license is not required, but other fishing regulations will still apply. The DNR is waiving the regular Recreation Passport entry fee for Michigan’s 103 state parks and 1,300 state-managed boating access sites. For more information click here.

Cromaine Library's SportPort Now Offers Fishing Kits:

Before you head to the local fishing hole, use your Cromaine Library card and check out a kids or teen/adult fishing pole kit! The kit includes a pole, outfitted tackle box, and pliers. Place a kit on hold here. Items may be checked out for seven days. SportPort, is an initiative of Project Play: Southeast Michigan, in partnership with the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation and Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan. SportPort is available all of the time, so after June 12/13, continue to explore our outdoor offerings!

Michigan Activity Pass Now Offers One Daily Pass to the 13 Metroparks:

Want to fish at a Metropark instead? Use your Cromaine Library card for a Metropark pass through the MAP Program that is good for one day of fun! [Allows one FREE daily vehicle pass. Can not be duplicated. Not redeemable for cash. The Michigan Activity Pass, and the Metroparks daily pass you will receive upon redemption, are not eligible to be used towards the Trade-up Program for annual passes.]
