2020 is going to be remembered for a lot of things, but here at Cromaine Library, we didn't want it to be remembered as the year without Santa Claus! While we weren't able to host Santa in person as usual, the jolly old elf himself suggested a way he could continue to spread his magic this holiday season. On a recent unusually warm November day, Santa's internet was giving him trouble, but we were able to connect with him at the North Pole via telephone!

    Cromaine:
Santa, thank you so much for taking time to talk to us today! We're sad we are not able to have you in the Library this year.

    Santa:
Ho, Ho, Ho! I'm happy to hear from you Cromaine! You know there is nothing I love more than seeing good little girls and boys reading books and learning, and libraries help make that happen. But I know right now it's more important for everyone to stay healthy.

    Cromaine:
Since you aren't able to visit us this year, is there a way you can still communicate with the children of Hartland?

    Santa:
Yes! I'm glad you asked. Since Christmas is the season of giving, I think I have an idea that will work. It's been a tough year for many families, and there are a lot of Moms, Dads, and Grandparents that are worried about not being able to provide toys to their children or grandchildren. And I think gifts from parents and others are even more important than gifts from the North Pole! I notice every year I visit that Cromaine has a Toys for Tots Donation box, is that correct?

Cromaine: Yes Santa, we are happy to be a drop-off location every year!

    Santa:
Good! That gave me an idea. For every new, unwrapped toy donated to Toys for Tots, I will be happy to write a letter of thanks to the families that make the donation! And if there are 3 children in the family, and each child puts a donation in the box, I will write each of them a letter.

    Cromaine:
Wow, Santa, that could be a lot of letters. Our Hartland community can be very generous!

    Santa:
That's fine with me! With the elves and Mrs. Claus working hard to help me every day here in the workshop, I have plenty of time to sit down at night with my milk and cookies to write letters of thanks. Some might say that I know best that it truly is better to give than to receive at Christmas. While I appreciate the treats children leave for me, I would be happy delivering their presents even if they didn't leave me a goodie or two. But for the record, sugar cookies and chocolate chip are at the top of my list. My belly is grumbling just thinking about them!

    Cromaine:
Great! Here is our plan for families to participate since we're currently only open for Curbside Service. They can purchase toys and bring them to library. After they pull into a Curbside parking spot, they can call 810-632-5200 and select 1 to let staff know they are there to drop off a Toys for Tots Donation. A staff member will greet them at their car and give them a letter request form for each new, unwrapped toy they donate. Once they fill out the letter request form, it can be dropped off again using Curbside or they can email it to pholtz@cromaine.org. Then we will get them to you at the North Pole. How does that sound Santa? (Families can also see instructions here.)

Santa: That sounds better than magic reindeer food does to my Rudolph! Ho, Ho, HO!

Cromaine: Thank you Santa! We knew we could count on you. With Christmas quickly approaching, we will only accept letter request forms until Saturday, December 12. That will give you plenty of time to write the letters AND get them in the mail for delivery.

    Santa:
    Wonderful! Merry Christmas Cromaine Library!

Ms. Bekah excited to see Santa during one of his last visits to Cromaine!
