73-Year-Old Michigan Woman Killed By Stray Bullet

The gunman, who is reportedly "devastated," was shooting a rifle on his property.

RILEY TWP., MI – A 73-year-old Michigan woman is dead after getting hit by a stray bullet while standing in her kitchen, according to media reports. The woman, Shirley Pfeil, was standing next to her husband when she was hit Sunday afternoon, according to an Associated Press report.

Pfiel's husband heard "a loud crack" and then his wife collapsed, the AP reported.

A 21-year-old man apparently was shooting a rifle on his property near the couple's home, police reported. The 21-year-old man is cooperating with police. The St. Clair County prosecutor is reviewing the case.

Lt. Dave Kaiser of the Michigan State Police say that the shooter was "very devastated" when he found out it appeared to be his bullet that killed the woman, reported The Detroit News.
