Horse Gets Stuck In A Frozen Pond, Deputies Come To The Rescue

RAY TOWNSHIP, MI – A half-dozen Macomb County Sheriff's Deputies and Ray Township firefighters came to the rescue of a horse that fell through ice on a pond and needed pulled to safety. And, aside from one deputy getting pulled into the freezing water with the horse, everybody walked away safely and mostly dry.

The dramatic rescue was caught on video, which was posted to the Sheriff office's Facebook page. (See the video below.) The horse's owner called for help at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the Sheriff's office.

Deputies, using ropes, tried pulling the horse from the pond, but the horse struggled to get its legs above the ice. At one point, a deputy is pulled into the water with the horse – footage that deputy's body cam is edited into the Sheriff office's video.

Soon, firefighters join in the effort, and used shovels to break up the ice on the side of the pond. The horse was then able to get its legs above the ice and out of the pond. According to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office, the horse was checked by the veterinarian and was not injured.

The deputy who fell through the ice, as well as other deputies and firefighters, were not injured either.
