Macomb County Sheriff ID's Pedestrian Killed In Crash Tuesday

Reed Styers, 61, of Harrison Township, died Tuesday evening when he was hit by a vehicle when attempting to cross Hall Road.

MACOMB TWP., MI — The Macomb County Sheriff's Office has identified the person killed Tuesday in a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash at Hall and Gratiot in Macomb Township.

Reed Styers, 61, of Harrison Township, died when he was hit by a van while trying to cross Hall Road, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies said they were dispatched to Hall Road and Gratiot Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday following a 911 call regarding a vehicle hitting a pedestrian.

A white Chevrolet van driven by a 69-year-old Cosco Township man was traveling westbound on Hall Road, east of Gratiot Avenue when it struck Styers, police said. Styers was attemtping to cross from the north side of westbound Hall Road to the south side of the road when he was hit, police said.

The sheriff's office said in a news release Wednesday that westbound traffic had a green light. Police also said the driver of the van called 911 and has been cooperative with the investigation.

The driver, who was wearing a seat belt and was the sole occupant of the van, is not suspected of using drugs or alcohol and was released from the scene pending the results of the investigation, which the sheriff's office said is still underway.
