Macomb Sheriff: Stolen Guns Recovered After Traffic Stop
A sheriff's deputy noticed the stolen items through a rear window, officials said.

MACOMB TWP, MI — Three stolen handguns and several pieces of identification and credit cards were all recovered by sheriff's deputies during a traffic stop in Macomb Township Monday, officials said.
Shirak Zaia, 34, of Shelby Township has been arrested and charged with three counts of receiving and concealing firearms, carrying a concealed weapon and two counts of using a financial device without consent, officials said.
The charges were authorized after sheriff's deputies pulled Zaia over and discovered, among other items, three stolen handguns and credit cards in his possession, the sheriff's office said.

According to the sheriff's office, a deputy saw a man, later identified as Zaia, running between two houses in the area of Walnut Creek Drive and Silver Maple Drive in Macomb Township, before getting into a white Chevrolet Equinox. The Equinox matched the description of a vehicle involved in some recent thefts, sheriff's officials said.
A deputy performed a traffic stop on the vehicle and spotted the items through the rear window, police said.

"Please be mindful to keep your vehicles locked," Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said in a press release. "Remember to roll your windows up and do not leave valuable items inside of your vehicle, even if out of sight."
Zaia is lodged in the Macomb County Jail on a $5,000 cash/surety bond.
