Macomb Township Mail Carrier Accused Of Stealing Gift Cards, Cash And $70,000 In Checks
A search of Hoover's personal vehicle yielded 688 pieces of mail, 15 debit/credit/gift cards and 99 checks valued at $69,496.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, MI — A former Macomb Township mail carrier is in hot water after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars in cash, checks and gift cards from mail, according to media reports.
The case was first brought to light in Nov. 2016 when a construction worker found mail in a portable toilet and alerted the Macomb Township Sheriff of the shady discovery, Fox 2 reports. The mail turned out to be from Shawn Hoover's postal route, which reportedly had received a number of complaints of thefts and undelivered mail.
A sting operation ensued. An undercover agent put $85 cash in an envelope destined for Hoover's route and set up surveillance of Hoover as he made deliveries. Hoover reportedly opened the sting operation mail and removed the cash. He was soon met by undercover agents at his mail vehicle, who took him into custody.
