MACOMB TOWNSHIP, MI — A 21-year-old man accused of firing a shotgun into a Macomb Township sports bistro early Monday morning has been arraigned on several felonies, the Macomb County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday.

Charles Alam, of Macomb Township, was arraigned Wednesday in 41-A District Court on two counts of felonious assault, four counts of felony firearms, firing a gun from a vehicle, shooting at a building and malicious destruction of property.

Around 2:20 a.m. Monday, deputies were called to the Hub Sports Bistro on 21 Mile Road, near Garfield, after Alam, wielding a shotgun, fired a shot into the restaurant, deputies said. One shot was aimed at the rear door of the building as a staff member was leaving and another shot was aimed at a vehicle in the bistro's parking lot, deputies said.

According to deputies, Alam had threatened to "shoot up" the building after he was escorted out of the bar by security Sunday evening. Deputies said he returned with a shotgun in a red Honda.

A female employee at the bistro was leaving through a back door when Alam shot at it, deputies said. The employee was pulled back into the bar by another staff member and was not injured, deputies said.

Alam drove off before returning and firing another shot, which hit a patron's vehicle in the parking lot, deputies said.

Deputies said that by using information gathered from witnesses, surveillance video and the name of the accused through an unrelated traffic stop during the night, they were able to get a location for the suspect.

Deputies said they drove to Alam's home and found a spent shell casing outside a vehicle at the home. Alam surrendered to police peacefully, and a search warrant was executed on the home, where deputies say they found a loaded shotgun. Alam's description matched what had been previously reported, deputies said.

Alam's bail was set at $250,000. He is scheduled to return to court June 30.
