New Haven School Calendar 2017-18: First Day Of School, Vacations, Conferences

The first day of school in New Haven is September 5. Feel free to mark it on your calendar as one of the most dreaded days of the year for students and teachers — and feel free not to feel guilty about marking it as one of your favorites. The New Haven Community School District has released its 2017-2018 calendar for public schools.

The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.

Here is the full list of dates to know for this school year:

September

• 9/5: First Day of School, Half Day for Students (Staff PD Day)
• 9/29: Half Day for Students (Staff PD Day), Homecoming Parade at 4:00 p.m.

October

• 10/6: Half Day for Students
• 10/20: Half Day for Students, End of First Marking Period
• 10/23: High School Evening Conferences
• 10/25: Elementary School Half Day for Students, Afternoon and Evening Conferences
• 10/25: Middle School Evening Conferences
• 10/26: Elementary School Half Day for Students, Afternoon Conferences

November

• 11/1: Half Day for Students (Staff PD Day)
• 11/22: Half Day for Students (Staff PD Day)
• 11/23 - 11/24: No School (Thanksgiving Recess)
• 11/27: School Reopens

December

• 12/20 - 12/21: High School Students Half Day, Exams
• 12/22: Half Day for Students, High School Exams, End of First Semester, Winter Recess Begins at End of Day

January

• 1/8: School Reopens, Second Semester Begins
• 1/15: No School (Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday Observance)
• 1/24: Half Day for Students (Staff PD Day)

February

• 2/7: Half Day for Students (Staff PD Day)
• 2/16: Half Day for Students, Mid-Winter Break Begins at End of School Day
• 2/20: School Reopens

March

3/7: Half Day for Students (Staff PD Day)
