School Board Protests New State Concealed Carry Law

Chippewa Valley School Board Votes Unanimously For Resolution Against Allowing Guns In Schools.

In the wake of recent state Senate bills that would permit concealed weapons in schools (and other areas once off limits), the Chippewa Valley Schools Board of Education voted unanimously to reject concealed carry.

The board voted on this resolution during its Dec. 4 meeting The new legislation approved by the state senate would allow concealed carry permit holders who have extra training to take guns into previously forbidden areas including bars, schools, stadiums and child care centers. The law permits schools to ban children and teachers from carrying concealed guns, but does not allow them to impose similar rules on visitors to school grounds.

“We wanted to send a message to the state government and governor that we believe that the Senate bills that were passed are not good for schools and the kids,” Chippewa Valley Superintendent Ron Roberts told the C&G Newspapers. “This resolution is to encourage them to think about that and allow us to set policies that impact our schools.”
