Learn Fire Safety Tips with the Chesterfield Twp Fire Department

Family-friendly event marks the start of National Fire Prevention Week

National Fire Prevention Week runs from Oct. 7-13, and the Chesterfield Township Fire Department will be hosting a special open house to mark the occasion and share tips and vital information about fire safety with Zolman Restoration, a full-service restoration company specializing in fire, smoke, and other restoration services. Chesterfield Township Fire Department Captain Mike Scalici made the announcement.

The public is welcome to attend the event, which is set to run from 12-3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7 at the Chesterfield Township Fire Department, 33991 23 Mile Road. Experts will share tips for all ages about fire safety while showcasing essential fire prevention information through demonstrations of fire extinguisher usage and window bailout techniques. Attendees will also participate in fun activities like touch a truck, a bounce house, photo booth, children’s firefighter challenge and agility course, raffles and more. A complimentary National Coney Island lunch will also be available for a limited time.

“This event is an opportunity for us to share our knowledge in an engaging and educational way to connect with people of all ages to share information they need to know,” said Scalici. “This community event will remind families of the importance of all aspects of fire safety and prevention, encouraging everyone to outline an escape route and perform routine checks on smoke detectors, home safety equipment and electronics that can sometimes lead to fires. It is our hope that people will walk away from this event with a better understanding of the risks and how to avoid them.”

“Zolman Restoration regularly sees the devastation of fires through our restoration work, and partnering with the Chesterfield Township Fire Department allows us to encourage preventative measures to avoid these disasters where possible,” Zolman Restoration President Jeff Katkowsky said. “A continued education on fire safety and prevention is vitally important for all families and businesses, and National Fire Prevention Week encourages everyone to take proactive measures in preparation for the unexpected.”

As part of the event, the Chesterfield Township Fire Department and Zolman Restoration will coordinate a smoke detector giveaway to help place more smoke detectors in Metro Detroit homes and team members and firefighters will be on-site to answer questions and participate in training activities.
