New Baltimore Church Sets Pasty-Baking Record

Carrying on a tradition started in 1998 volunteer bakers from First Congregational Church United Church of Christ set a record, making 7,966 pasties for the annual fall pasty sale. The church uses proceeds from the pasty sale to sustain itself, support other charities, and to continue the pasty-making.
The church sells both meat and vegetable pasties two times a year: the end of October and the end of February. A team of over 70 volunteers was responsible for creating the massive batch of savory treats this fall. The pasty efforts continue into winter. By late November, the church had obtained 400 bags of Gold Medal flour and 20 cases of shortening in preparation for the February sale.
